Work Description:

The scope of the work involves the software development of HMI library, serving as an extension of the Cryogenic Toolkit developed by our customer within the context of the Instrument Control System Framework. This framework is designed to facilitate instrument developers in implementing the control of Cryogenic Systems. The HMI library consists of a collection of widgets for cryogenics components developed as Framework Controls and/or User Controls, along with Faceplates (pop up dialogs), alarms handling a nd recipe management for configuration data. The library shall also include the visualization of generic sequences defined by our customers cryogenic experts.
The library shall be implemented using the Beckhoff TE2000 (TwinCAT HMI) product and it shall interface with the customers Cryogenic Toolkit. Implemented in Structured Text (ST) for the Beckhoff TwinCAT System.
The contractor will join the customers small team already working on this development with the aim to deliver a first version for instruments in Q2 2024.
The contractor shall use the development infrastructure to be provided by our customer (for version control, issue management, etc..).

Experience and Knowledge:

The contractor is expected to provide the following key competences and technical skills:

  • University degree in computer science, physics or equivalent.
  • A good command of spoken and written English is essential.
  • Very good oral and written communication skills
  • Strong sense for quality development.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a team.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development processes
  • Practical experience with modern software engineering practices and tools, including configuration control tools (GitLab), incremental & iterative development.
  • Demonstrated strong experience with Beckhoff TwinCAT HMI (TE2000)
  • Experience in HTML5, Typescript/JS and CSS.
  • Experience in PLC programming with the TwinCAT environment.

Location:

The majority of tasks under the contract are expected to be performed at the contractor’s premises, accessing the customers development infrastructure remotely. Occasional onsite visits to Garching by Munich for hardware integration activities may be required. Following an agile development process, frequent communication between the contractor and the rest of the team is expected through Microsoft Teams.

Duration: 6 months

Estimated Effort:
Indicative estimated total effort of 0.5 FTEs with the aim to consume most of the effort in the first quarter 2024 and the rest spread over the year for further enhancements and maintenance of the HMI library.
